LIVING independently has changed Heath Vale’s life. In March, he moved from his family’s home to ConnectGV’s Shepparton accommodation, an independent living unit with services to support people living with a disability to live full, happy lives.
Heath lives with high-functioning autism, epilepsy, and a mild intellectual disability but he is like any young person in their 20s, moving out of home for the first time and experiencing life on their own two feet.
Since moving, Heath has been able to immerse himself in his great passion for sport. He has begun playing basketball for the Shepparton Scorpions and he will begin work placement at Rebel Sport. He says he feels good about moving and that he feels more confident now.
ConnectGV service leader, Rhylie Stockdale came onboard in August. She says, “Heath’s independence has come in leaps and bounds. It’s great to see him when he comes out of his comfort zone.”
ConnectGV is a registered NDIS provider committed to providing personalised options for locals with a disability and their families. The organisation has grown and evolved to become a leading disability service within the Goulburn Valley that offers individual support, employment, accommodation, plan management, support coordination and more.
Heath’s mother, Sadie, said, “To people living with a disability, this is a great model. We’ve seen how much he has grown up and how independent he is now. Every week is a full, busy week for him. The whole family is incredibly proud.”
ConnectGV is available to support people with a disability to achieve their goals. Give them a call on 5821 2466 or visit www.connectgv.com to learn more.
