THE Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has continued her fight to improve safety of the pedestrian crossing at Kialla West Primary School, inviting the new Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne to Shepparton to see the dangers of the crossing herself.

Ms Lovell has been a continuous advocate for a major safety upgrade of the crossing, ever since a horrific two-vehicle collision involving a school family occurred at the crossing in September 2018.

In a constituency question to Ms Horne in State Parliament, Ms Lovell said that after nearly 4½ years since the collision, there has been no meaningful safety upgrades of the crossing to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers.

Ms Lovell asked Ms Horne if she would accept an invitation to visit Kialla West Primary School at the end of the school day so she could see for herself the dangers of the school crossing during peak times and the urgent need to upgrade it.

“It has been close to five years since that horrific collision at the Kialla West Primary School crossing and it remains just as dangerous, with little done to make it safe for students, staff, parents, and motorists.

“The new Minister needs to get on with the job of fixing the Kialla West crossing and I invite her to join me at the end of a school day so she can understand the dangers of the crossing and the need to make it safe for all that use it each day,” Ms Lovell said.
