HAVING been successfully elected at the recent election countback, Councillor Dinny Adem undertook his oath of office on Monday.

Cr Adem said that he is happy about being re-elected, having served on the Greater Shepparton City Council as mayor in 2016 and 2017, and deputy mayor in 2020 before retiring from Council.

“Water retention for agriculture is vital,” said Cr Adem. “These are State and Federal issues. However, Council plays an important role in advocating for the needs of our region.”

He said creating social and affordable housing is a key issue Council will seek to tackle over the next term, as well as finding ways to strengthen the Goulburn Valley Designated Area Migration Agreement (GV DAMA).

“DAMA was established to create a pathway for immigrants to citizenship and to address workforce shortages, but it is not delivering how they thought and there must be a better version to consider.”

Mayor, Shane Sali congratulated Mr Adem on his appointment, saying he looked forward to working alongside him.

“On behalf of Council, I welcome Dinny to the team and look forward to working with him to achieve strong outcomes for our community,” he said.
