CAMPFIRES are among the leading causes of burn injuries. According to Kid Safe Victoria, more than 1,000 children between 0–4 years are treated for burns and scalds in hospital every year.

To prevent your child being burnt by a campfire; maintain adequate supervision, teach them how to behave around fires and have a well-stocked first aid kit in the event of an injury.

If your child sustains a burn, correct first aid can impact the way the burn heals.
Remove clothing, nappies, and jewellery from the area
Run under cool water for 20 minutes
Cover with cling wrap and seek medical assistance if burn is larger than 20 cent coin or is on hands, feet, face, or groin area
