A COUNTBACK was held on Monday, January 16 to fill the extraordinary vacancy within Greater Shepparton City Council after former mayor Kim O’Keeffe resigned to pursue state politics.

Ben Ladson was elected from the countback of votes cast in the 2020 general election, which were redistributed amongst those candidates still eligible to sit on council.

This will be the first time Mr Ladson has served as a councillor.

Mayor, Cr Shane Sali congratulated Mr Ladson on his appointment, saying he looked forward to working alongside him in his new position as councillor.

“On behalf of Council, I welcome Ben to the team and look forward to working with him to achieve strong outcomes for our community,” said Cr Sali.

Mr Ladson has 48 hours from the count to accept the position, and if so, will be officially sworn in as a councillor at a later date.
