MICK Simpson, the legend who walked 210km from Kyabram to Parliament House in Melbourne, is ready to continue raising awareness about dementia in 2023.

On Sunday, February 12, people of all ages and abilities are invited to partake in a walk around Victoria Lake Park, commencing at 10am. This casual, family-friendly walk can be done at your own pace and participants can do as many laps as they like.

After the walk, enjoy a BBQ sausage and connect with others who have been impacted by dementia either themselves or through loved ones.

“This will be a family day, in support of people with dementia and their carers, and to raise awareness. There’s no need to register, just come along on the day. Pets are also welcome to come along,” said Mick.

While this will not be a fund-raising event, donations of any value are greatly appreciated.

“We look forward to seeing you there and helping us to support our friends, neighbours and families with this disease. Dementia does not discriminate, people from all walks of life have been affected by this somewhat isolating diagnosis and we are working hard to garner even more local support for those facing related challenges,” said Mick.

It’s estimated that an incredible 400,000 people in Australia currently have dementia, some as young as 25. Given it affects so many people across our nation, it’s time to get the conversation flowing and remove the stigma facing such a diagnosis can incite.
