THE announcement of an election date marks the curtain close on the political undertakings of Federal Member for Nicholls, the Honorable Damian Drum.
In one of his last grand openings as a Federal MP, Drum unveiled the first stage of the Maude Street Revitalisation project.
Peter Harriott, chief executive of Greater Shepparton City Council, thanked Drum on behalf of the Council for making many projects, like the revitalised section of Maude and Vaughan Streets, possible.
“You’ve provided a lot to this region and the list is endless. We can start with the big stuff like the rail… and then DAMA (Designated Area Migration Agreement for the Goulburn Valley) for example, and everything in between.”
“But apart from providing all that infrastructure and programs to our area, you’ve been a really good person to deal with and straightforward, and I guess that comes from the football playing days,” Mr Harriott said to Mr Drum, saying he is a “practical” person.
After a successful national sporting profile, Damian entered politics with the National Party to contest the 2002 state election. Without any political experience, he rose quickly and soon found himself Deputy Leader of the National Party in the Legislative Council, party Whip, and
Shadow Minister for Youth Affairs, Education Services, Sport, and much more. Drum entered Federal politics when he won National Party pre-selection for the seat of Murray in 2016, which became Nicholls in 2019.
“You’ve always helped us to get the right people in the street to show us around and been really good to work with. So, we wish you well in whatever you do next. We do thank you for the way that you’ve worked with us since the last election,” said Mr Harriott.
