Future athletic stars hit the track on Monday at the John McEwan Reserve in Shepparton as 38 schools from Cobram down through to Kialla competed in Division Athletics school sports. Cheered on by lucky parents, grandparents and carers who were fortunate enough to attend the event.
The top competitors from the Greater Shepparton area school sports days, which were held over the course of the year, met for the regional competition last week, with the winners earning a place in the Division competition.
The games are a test of skills and competitiveness for students ranging from grade four to six. Competing against their peers will help build foundations which will lead some of the students to continue on to higher levels of competition, and maybe even the Olympics and Commonwealth games for the dedicated few.
While there will be disappointment for some of the students from Monday’s meet, the top places getters will again have the chance to display their talents and compete against the best school-age athletes from Northern Victoria this Friday in Albury.
