Geraldine Christou Greater Shepparton City Council director of sustainable development

Greater Shepparton has had many big wins over the past 12 months.

It was a huge year for our economy, and we could not be prouder of the positive results our region has achieved.

Our region’s event calendar was and continues to thrive with several major events held during the year which were a first for our region.

In March, Greater Shepparton proudly hosted the inaugural Illuminate festival which saw approximately 20,000 people converge on the SAM Precinct at Victoria Park Lake.

This festival brought music, food and art to life and was the perfect warm up for White Night which we hosted in June.

Our first official White Night attracted a huge crowd of 32,000 people across the evening which involved 28 large-scale illuminations and projections celebrating the city’s vibrant and diverse creative scene.

Both events had an extremely positive economic impact, with accommodation providers fully booked, cafés and restaurants trading extended hours and our retail scene thriving.

Our region has cemented its reputation as a thriving tourism destination, and we will continue to build on this prosperity in the years to come.
