IN A bid to foster local heritage and honour the service of veterans, Kim O’Keeffe, the Nationals Member for Shepparton, is urging community groups across the district to take part in the restoration of local war memorials, honour rolls and avenues of honour. This comes as the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grant Program opens its doors for applications, offering grants amounting to $30,000 for such projects.

“This program supports many local war memorials across the Shepparton District, that commemorate and pay tribute to those in our community that have served our nation, in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations,” said Ms O’Keeffe.

She further emphasised the importance of these grants in helping ex-service organisations, local government authorities, non-profit organisations, and education institutions in maintaining these significant sites. Ms O’Keeffe is confident that the funding will go a long way in preserving these symbols of bravery and sacrifice.

Applications for the grant program are open until Monday, February 12, 2024 and can be submitted online at this link: https://www.vic.gov.au/restoring-community-war-memorials-and-avenues-honour. Ms O’Keeffe also offers support letters for applications upon request from her office.
