GVL Football Previews Split Round 16 with Sam Saracino

BENALLA V ECHUCA

Benalla will be looking to test itself against the benchmark of the competition in a bid to finish its season on a positive manner.

The Saints were able to get themselves off the bottom of the ladder after recording their third win of the season.

They were able to do that by producing a strong five-goal last quarter against Rochester.

They know this will be tough by they will turn to Christopher Welsh, Jordan Wolff, Joshua Marchbank, Henry Hill and Wade King to try and lead the way.

Echuca was challenged by Euroa last weekend.

The reigning premier was able to shake of the gallant challenge from the Pies to remain at the top of the ladder.

They will be hoping to welcome back a few regulars who missed the win.

Matthew Lias, Cameron Valentine, Sam Willoughby, Jack Evans, Noah Langborne and Liam Tenace will be looking to continue their good form to ensure the visitors get the win.

Tip: Echuca.

SHEPPARTON V MANSFIELD

This will be an intriguing match-up as Mansfield comes to Deakin Reserve in a bid to slam the door shut on Shepparton’s slim finals aspirations.

The Bears have come alive in the past fortnight with wins over Kyabram and Shepparton United.

The United win was hard fought and came only after a strong second half.

Co-coach Edward Lindon was outstanding.

He usually plays in defence, but moved to the forward line where he kicked three goals.

Rising star nominee Jacob Watts has had a brilliant few weeks since he was nominated.

He was good again last round with three goals in the come-from-behind win.

Izac Artavilla, Tyron Baden and Jonty Wardle were others to contribute to the win against the Demons.

There is no doubt the belief is there with the young Bears, but Lindon and fellow co-coach Xavier Stevenson will be looking for a fast start and scoreboard pressure to sow the seed of doubt in the minds of the visiting Eagles.

Ben Christopher, Lachlan Murphy-Dale, Dylan Lowry, Cameron Arnold and Tom Dunstan will be the players trying to lead the way to victory.

They know a win against the Bears and it is season over for the home team and their place in the top six will be secure.

Tip: Shepparton.

EUROA V ROCHESTER

Euroa will be looking to get back on the winners’ list after back-to-back losses to the top two teams on the ladder.

Despite the losses, coach Scott Rowan would have taken plenty of positives out of those games heading into the match-up with Rochester.

Rowan would be hoping to have a few regulars back that missed the match-up against Echuca last round.

The Magpies had as many as 10 players who couldn’t be considered for selection, which they hope to regain a few back for the game against the Tigers.

Jacob Gleeson, Max Gleeson, Nathan Stewart, Lincoln McKernan, Jake Penman and Jett Trotter will be looking to lead the way for the Pies.

Hamish Hooppell, Dylan Gordon, Blake Evans, Nathan McCarty and Grant Fuller will be the Tigers working hard to ensure they are competitive for four quarters against the home team.

Tip: Euroa.
