THE historic Shepparton Hotel has at last been demolished, reduced to rubble on the corner of High and Wyndham Streets.

The building burnt to the ground in 2007 and has been left mostly untouched for the last 15 years. After being evaluated last year, Council declared what was left of the two-storey brick building to be unsafe. After the owners failed to undertake necessary remedial works to retain the historic site, Council ordered the building to be demolished.

Over the weekend of April 9-10, excavators worked swiftly to have the site reduced to a single-storey. By Monday, all that was left was a pile of bricks and some exterior walls that have since been removed. Ongoing works have continued in order to clear the site entirely.
