La Trobe strategic plan for ‘COVID-affected world’

LA TROBE University has unveiled a 10-year strategic plan based on rebuilding the university’s future post COVID-19.

The university, which has four regional campuses including its smallest in Shepparton, has faced huge losses in revenue this year due to the lack of high fee-paying international students, which accounted for about one quarter of the university’s revenue.

A round of redundancies saw 239 employees across all campuses, including five from Shepparton, leave earlier this year, with more expected to follow.

According to the plan, priorities for regional campuses include:

  • Maintaining the network of campuses to support face-to-face delivery of programs and partnerships in rural health and education
  • Developing online courses supported by on-campus facilities, student support, and pathways to local industry
  • Implementing Regional Campus Learning and Collaboration Hubs
  • Strengthening pathways to university study with TAFE partners
