Lest we Forget

A NATIONAL day of remembrance, Anzac Day falls on April 25th every year and marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Commemorative services are held across the nation at dawn, recognising the time of the original landing at Gallipoli. Later in the day, former servicemen and servicewomen participate in marches. These important ceremonies are times where Australians can reflect on the many different meanings of war and the sacrifice those who have served have made.

This Anzac Day, the Shepparton RSL club will be open from 6am, with the Digger’s Bistro open for lunch and dinner. Two-up will be played is the RSL carpark from 1pm.

Following the dawn service in Shepparton, there will be a special Gunfire Breakfast with $2 bacon and egg rolls and complimentary tea, coffee and juice. All proceeds go to the 2023 Anzac Appeal.

“The Gunfire Breakfast is going to be a fantastic event and a great opportunity for the local community to come together after the dawn service rather than everyone going their separate ways,” an RSL spokesperson said.

If you plan to attend a dawn or commemorative service, please be aware that seating will be provided for veterans and anyone else that would like to be seated through any service should bring their own chairs.
