Letters to the Editor

COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Dear Editor,

THE cancellation of the Commonwealth Games is a huge let down to regional Victoria, which would have seen the regions showcased on an international stage. This is a lost opportunity that would have also had an extraordinary economic benefit to the regions.

Instead, this government has once again failed regional Victoria with their financial mismanagement and cost blowouts, leaving the state broke and unable to support opportunities such as the Commonwealth Games.

I also feel for the many athletes, their support teams and families, who put so much on the line to be part of the Games. There has been so much money now wasted, time and effort to now be told the Games are cancelled is a disgrace and an embarrassment for our State.

Commonwealth Games Australia are disgusted by the way this has been handled and are concerned about the impact this will have attracting international sporting events.

Dan Andrews wants to talk about ‘legacy’, these enduring examples of financial mismanagement will be his government’s legacy.

Yours sincerely,
