LIKE many others in the Goulburn Valley, local apprentice Teah Huon grew up around the dairy farming industry.

Studying a Certificate III in Agriculture (Dairy Production) and looking to start her Certificate IV in Agriculture next year, Teah has followed in her uncle’s footsteps by pursuing a career in the dairy industry.

When Teah heard about a scholarship from the Shepparton South Rotary Club she decided she would apply and see what would happen, not really expecting to come out as the winner over three other students.

The Kevin Jordan Bursary Award was created in honour of Kevin Jordan, a Shepparton South Rotary member and dairy farmer who passed away last year. Kevin and his wife, Peg, often had students on their Dookie farm for work experience. The award recognises students who are committed to further education and striving to achieve their careers in agriculture.

Teah was so grateful for the award and said the $500 will go towards a cattle pregnancy-testing course.

“I want to try and get as much training as I can, and this will really help better my skills in the industry and allow me to have my own dairy farm one day as well.”

As Teah’s employer, The Apprenticeship Factory is proud of her achievements and her dedication to her studies.
