Local scholarship program receives generous donation

The Lift Off Scholarship Program was established in 2014 as a response to the increasing number of young people in the Goulburn Valley not able to afford the transition from secondary education to post secondary education. Over the past five years, the scholarships have increased the number of students from the region who are able to pursue their education dreams.

A study has shown that young people from non-metropolitan regions in Victoria defer university studies at twice the rate of their metropolitan counterparts, and currently only half of our young people finish secondary school and a quarter go on to tertiary education.

Lift Off Scholarship advisory committee chair, Lisa McKenzie, said, “The Lift Off scholarships continue to go from strength to strength. The recent success of our Casual for a Cause Fundraiser and the surprise injection into the fund of $100,000 from an anonymous donor demonstrate the community’s interest in supporting the scholarships.”

Lift Off Education Scholarships are now open for students wanting to study in 2020. Scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 are available. Visit www.greatershepparton.foundation for scholarship guidelines and to apply.
