WITH a growing number of shopfronts including stylish boutiques, clothing and shoe stores for men, women and children, as well as jewellers, hobby stores and more, the Maude Street redevelopment has become a hive of activity since being officially opened ahead of Christmas.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to see the strip between Fryers and High Streets being busy again,” remarked Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry board member, Geoff Adams.

“The parking is easy for shoppers, and with slow moving traffic, it’s a safe place to shop.”

The Chamber drove the $17.15M redevelopment of the former mall precinct, eager to see Maude Street teeming with shoppers and transformed for local hospitality and retail traders.

Chamber president, John Anderson, said that the redevelopment has already shown great success for both shoppers and businesses since being opened.

“Simply putting a slow-moving traffic lane through and some carparks has given life back to the precinct, but also, it’s still very much a pedestrian area. We’ve got so many places where people can sit and watch the world go by.

“The shops are all open and they’re trading well after a very tough two years and now in fact, we’ve got new businesses that have come and opened.

“Over time, I think the heart will develop as people are coming back in here, both day and night. I’m also really pleased that it is such a safe place to come to at night now,” said Mr Anderson.

The redevelopment includes modern street furniture, shelters with solar panels, CCTV cameras, audio, lighting, a new playground in addition to one-way, slow-moving traffic.

Parking in the CBD, including along Maude Street is timed but complimentary until February 1.
