GREATER Shepparton City Council mayor, councillor Shane Sali, has been elected to the Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel for 2024 representing Regional Cities Victoria in his role as chair.

The Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel (LGMAP) consists of 10 mayors from urban, regional and rural communities across Victoria. The panel representatives, who change each year, meet with Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne four times a year to offer advice on legislative, regulatory, strategic and policy issues affecting councils across Victoria.

This year’s panel is expected to focus its work on governance, representation and inclusion, which Cr Sali said were important topics in regional cities, including Greater Shepparton.

“It is fantastic to be elected to the 2024 Local Government Mayoral Advisory Panel. This provides Greater Shepparton and Regional Cities Victoria with a seat at the table, allowing me to regularly meet with the Minister and raise important issues affecting our communities,” he said.

“Regional cities are the backbone of Victoria, and we have an important role to play in advocating for positive change in the local government space. I look forward to working alongside the other mayors on this year’s panel to share ideas and advocate for the needs of our regions.

“There is a great mix of representatives across the panel and I am extremely proud to be elected to represent Regional Cities Victoria,” Cr Sali said.
