SAM, through art, acts as a conduit for conversation and connection; a meeting place for all, where everyone can partake in a meaningful experience when considering the ideas behind the incredible works that fill our galleries.
Our philosophy at SAM is grounded in storytelling. Every object on display tells a story of a place, a time, a culture, an idea, or even a feeling. To be able to work with our collection and the many talented artists practicing in Australia is a joy, and we’re thrilled that the home of so many significant works can be found right here on the land of the Yorta Yorta peoples, in this resilient, fruitful region that is now recognised for its creativity and industry.
Our team is working every day to present exhibitions and programs that inspire and challenge, with connection always at their heart. “New SAM” was made possible through the support of this extraordinary community and is a cultural and architectural achievement to be proud of. We are at the beginning of our journey (my time with SAM has only recently begun) and we invite you all to join us each step of the way.
