One of our best and brightest students

Every so often we cross the path of exceptionally bright and talented young people who defy expectations again and again.

Matthew Hann is a student at Greater Shepparton Secondary College, Wanganui campus. He is studying a combination of Year 10 and VCE, after moving from Year 8 directly into Year 10.

Since last year, Matthew has been a part of the Junior Science Olympiad training squad and has recently been selected to participate in their Spring School.

The purpose of the spring school is to provide accelerated learning to 24 students from across Australia so that a team of six can be selected to compete at the International Junior Science Olympiad in December.

The Spring School will cover subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

At GSSC, Matthew is studying Methods and Biology at VCE level while completing his studies from year 10.

Outside of his studies and while in lockdown, Matthew plays piano, sings and practices yoga.

The Australian Science Olympiads are a national enrichments program for students to extend themselves way beyond school science through challenging exams, stimulating extensions and enrichment programs and of course, international competitions.

Based on their performance at the Australian Science Olympiads Summer School, students will go on to represent Australia at one of the International Science Olympiads in Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Physics and the Junior Science Olympiads.
