Putting life into a dead battery

Even though COVID has impacted across the region, the life in batteries remains the same and when their life has ended, there is still some good to be obtained from them.

For ten years, Paul Archer at Natrad Batteries in Campbell St, Shepparton, has been collecting old batteries and converting them into cash that he donates to GV Health, Child and Adolescent Unit on a yearly basis.

This year is no different. Paul has raised $51,155.86 bringing it over $600,000 he has collected over the last 10 years

Twenty percent of the money of the money raised is used for toys for the children in the unit and the rest is used for necessary medical equipment.

The new Child and Adolescent Unit is now located in the new building at GV Health and offers a much better facility for staff and patients.

Many of the batteries Paul collects come from local industries in the region that have large fleets such as the trucking companies and car dealers as well as private donations from people in the community.

The money from this year’s donation has been used to provide new artwork in the ward as well as improved the facilities in the playground that is within the ward.

If anyone has an old battery they want to put to good use, giving it to Paul will do more with it than leaving it sitting in your shed taking up space.
