Ridiculous firewood situation

Liberal Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has labelled the Andrews Labor Government’s new firewood collection rules announced Friday as “ridiculous”, with Labor again ignoring Moira Shire residents who rely on wood as an energy source for their homes.

Ms Lovell has advocated for the State Government to open more firewood collection points in the northern part of her electorate, with no designated locations situated in Moira Shire, despite an abundance of available wood in the nearby Barmah Forest.

“With the firewood collection season now open, the State Government has confirmed that there will be no firewood collection points in the Moira Shire LGA, a ridiculous scenario considering the abundance of fallen wood in local regional parks that if left will become a fire hazard during summer,” said Ms Lovell.

“It is an insult to locals that Labor are forcing them to drive up to 3 ½ hours to collect wood just to heat their homes and I call on the Minister to end this madness and allow Moira residents to access firewood closer to home.”
