THE future of retirement villages was on the agenda Monday, August 7, 2023, in a discussion between the Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, Tim McCurdy, Nationals Member for Shepparton District, Kim O’Keeffe, and a group of residents.

“We had a really productive morning hearing from a wide range of local people who each shared productive feedback on a number of important matters,” said Ms O’Keeffe.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along for sharing their lived experience with us and helping us to understand any concerns they may have, which will help inform the future changes to retirement villages.

“…retirement villages play a substantial part of people’s lives. We want to make sure the process is understood and that the locals making the move have the support they need to make an informed decision.”

Their discussion centred around retirement villages entry and exit fees, dispute resolution processes, among a range of matters that need attention.

“It is apparent that changes need to be addressed and it is important the community feels understood raising any issues they may have,” said Ms O’Keeffe.

Mr McCurdy is continuing to meet with the community and stakeholders around Victoria to gather input on the Retirement Villages Act.
