LOCALS who were enjoying freedom and travelling interstate months and weeks ago have since found themselves stranded with no safe pathway home.

Independent Member for Shepparton District, Suzanna Sheed, is petitioning the State Government to make safe passage possible for Victorians locked out due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“While my office was able to help some residents with exceptional cases to return, we have many more who left to travel in their caravans when they were entitled to and now find themselves locked out of their own state.

“Many of these travellers are over the age of 60, were first in line to receive their vaccination, and they can self-isolate at home.”
While efforts have been made to bring home Aussies stranded overseas, more needs to be done to assist domestic tourists.

Ms Sheed said that increasing the timeframe of travel exemptions to 36 hours to permit solo or senior travellers to get home would be the safest and most effective way for residents to return.
