GENEROUS. That’s what Shepparton has been labelled after it made a grand debut on GoFundMe’s annual “Year In Help” report, marking its place among Australia’s top ten most generous cities for 2023. The report, which ranks cities based on per capita donations, is a testament to the growing philanthropic spirit in Shepparton, even amid rising living and housing costs.

Shepparton ranked seventh overall while Bundaberg, Queensland, took the top spot as Australia’s most generous city for 2023, a position it last held in 2020. The report also highlighted an unprecedented level of generosity across Australia, with a record 1.4 million donations made on GoFundMe in 2023.

GoFundMe’s recent revelation that one in five Australians have donated via its platform underscores the nation’s giving spirit. Over 5.2 million Australians have collectively raised more than $820 million for various causes through over 9.2 million individual donations.

Nicola Britton, Regional Director for GoFundMe Australia, praised the swift response to calls for support in these cities, attributing it to the tight-knit nature of Australian communities.

“Shepparton can be proud to be recognised on this year’s list of most generous cities; as should every person that started, was the beneficiary of, or donated to, a GoFundMe fundraiser or helped spread the word. All of these kind actions truly make a real, tangible difference to Australians and their communities, day in and day out.”
