THERE are five community and Neighbourhood Houses in the Greater Shepparton electorate and each one is an engine that builds and supports community.

Community Neighbourhood Houses provide a meeting place for people of all ages and backgrounds. Vitally, these hubs also present a range of courses designed to educate, connect and support individuals in the community.

At the North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre (NSCLC) on August 5, National Party leader, Peter Walsh and Nationals candidate, Kim O’Keeffe acknowledged the key work of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (NHV), by announcing a commitment to recurrent funding.

Standing alongside NSCLC CEO, Debbie Orlandi, Mr Walsh said, “Liberals and Nationals have committed that if we are elected in November…funding is locked in [for NHVs] for perpetuity so they can employ people and deliver services, knowing that there is certainty for employment for their staff.”

Concurring with the party leader, Kim O’Keeffe stated, “We understand the terrific work done by North Shepparton Community and Learning Centre and our many other community and Neighbourhood Houses across the region and their need to plan their future with certainty.”

There are two Neighbourhood Houses in Shepparton, and one in Mooroopna, Murchison, Tatura, Nathalia and Numurkah.
