AS the summer sun shines over Shepparton, Cancer Council Victoria urges residents to remain vigilant in their efforts to reduce cancer risks while basking in the season’s festivities. Recent data from the Victorian Cancer Registry reveals that cancer accounts for roughly one-third of deaths in Victoria, with many cases being preventable.

Cancer Council Victoria’s Head of Prevention and Adjunct Associate Professor, Craig Sinclair, reminds residents of the importance of maintaining healthy habits. “As people enjoy their summer breaks, now is an opportune time to form new habits or reinforce existing ones from the past year to cut down the risk of cancer for you or loved ones,” he said.

Key preventive measures include staying SunSmart, limiting alcohol and sugary drink intake, staying active, eating healthily, and quitting smoking and vaping.

“Let this summer and festive season be one of good health, where preventive measures become second nature to everyone in Victoria so we can reduce the risk of cancer in the future,” Mr Sinclair added.
