Do it for golfing great!

By Natasha Fujimoto
JARROD Lyle was an exceptional golfer, friend and family man, who irrevocably left his mark upon the golfing world at a young age. From all accounts, he was in life and in sport, an exemplar of fine character.

At just 17, Jarrod was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, commencing a battle he would fight with the recurrent disease for the remainder of his life. Despite this, Jarrod remarkably forged a distinguished name for himself on the international circuit.

Through friend and golfing great, Robert Allenby, Jarrod became a tireless ambassador for Challenge – an organisation dedicated to raising money for children with cancer and their families.

In 2019, a year after Jarrod succumbed to his disease, #DoingItForJarrod was established in honour of the young golfer’s indominable spirit and has annually continued to raise money for Challenge.

With 300 golf clubs signed to support #DoingItForJarrod this year, long-time friend, Ray Sizer says, “This year we will hope to break the Challenge record of $17,000 and thanks to local support and businesses we will be able to remember one of the most remarkable and courageous people I ever met.”

On August 20, at 5:30pm, the Shepparton Golf Club will hold an auction for the #DoingItForJarrod challenge and invite golfers to play on the day by booking at Proshop, on 58212531. Golfers are encouraged to wear yellow, in memory of Jarrod, with food and drink also available to the general public.
