The exhibitions keep coming

THREE new exhibitions were opened at Shepparton Art Museum over the weekend, with a full program coinciding with Illuminate and the Shepparton Festival.

Art in Conflict is an Australia War Memorial exhibition featuring artists across Australia. Showcasing works of official war artists and contemporary artists who respond to conflict, this timely exhibition explores the unique ways that art can deepen understanding of Australia’s experience of conflict.

SAM Open 2022, New Horizons is an exhibition made of many locally recognisable names and artworks made by Shepparton, Goulburn Valley and Hume artists, in an ongoing celebration of community and creativity in the region within the museum’s walls.

The third exhibition, The Land I See Is Not Elsewhere, by Melbourne-based artist Nusra Latif Qureshi, is a new window exhibition that can be viewed from outside the SAM building.

The diverse installation questions the histories and legacies of painting and representation of the land in Australia. Nusra has exhibited art for 25 years and in this work, she has placed special objects with local references and stories to discover, particularly for children who will enjoy finding all the hidden items. The Land I See Is Not Elsewhere reflects the environmental surrounds of Shepparton, with a specific nod to SAM’s collection of watercolour landscapes by Albert Namatjira and the extended Hermannsburg School.
