What do you get when you mix April Fools’ Day and a bunch of talented dogs? A howling good time.
On April 1, the Shepparton & District Obedience Dog Club held its first-ever Dog Trick Trial, and it was a howling success, with over 220 entries from various states, including NSW, Qld, Victorian regional areas and Melbourne.
More than 80 talented pups with their enthusiastic owners showcased their skills, making it a difficult day for the judges and stewards. Nevertheless, the event was a success, with many club members returning home with ribbons, sashes, and the best dog award.
Dog Trick Trials encourage owners and their pups to form a strong bond and improve communication. No matter the dog’s age or the handler’s skill level, all were able to compete on an equal footing, making it an inclusive and fun environment.
If you’re a dog lover that would like to get involved, Shepparton & District Obedience Dog Club is situated on Chas Johnson Reserve, Packham Street, Shepparton and meet Sunday mornings at 9am. Newcomers are welcome starting on the first Sunday of the month.
