Vesak day

Millions of Buddhists worldwide will celebrate Vesak Day on Monday, May 12, the observance that commemorates the birth, enlightenment (Nirvāna), and passing (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

This year, the local Buddhist community in conjunction with the Ethnic Council is delighted to invite everyone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Vesak Festival in Shepparton on Saturday, May 10, from 4pm to 6pm at the Queen’s Gardens with honoured guest the Venerable Ihala Gokarella Pasadika Thero.

Vesak is the most important Buddhist festival, held on the full moon of the ancient lunar month of Vesakha, which usually falls in May each year. Pictured at last years Vesak Day celebration, Sam Atukorala and the Venerable Phra Satit Thitadhammo Photo: Aaron Cordy
