LIVING at home without any support or moving into a residential aged care facility – these are the options people think they have to choose between as they get older.
However, there is a third way that offers safety, comfort and independence. That option is home care packages.

“We all love living at home – we’re happy there,” said Victoria Carmody, Home Care Services Manager at Latrobe Community Health Service.

“However, as we age, some tasks become harder to manage. A home care package can help you stay happy and healthy, and living at home.”

Subsidised by the Federal Government, home care packages are available to eligible Australians over the age of 65, and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50.

A home care package is funding to pay for a ‘bundle’ of services that are tailored to meet a person’s specific care needs. These services may include help around the house, nursing and personal care, funding to and from social activities, medical assessments and personal safety alarms.
