Love them or hate them, those pesky cockatoos are back in numbers around Greater Shepparton. A cockatoo is any of the 21 species of parrots belonging to the family Cacatuidae, with the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, pink and grey Galahs and Corella the common ones seen flocking around town. While some species forage on the ground, many species forage for food in the canopy of trees, taking advantage of the large supply of seed in cones or gumnuts by Eucalyptus, Banksia and Hakea.
