MORE than half-a-million dollars has been provided by Fairleys Community Rewards Program since 2012, which supports nearly 60 community groups and several state-wide organisations like the Red Cross, SES and the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Today, Fairleys SUPA IGA will present a cheque of $100,000 to the Shepparton community at the RSL in Wyndham Street.

“We think it is important to not only serve our communities with fresh food at the best prices, with a friendly face, but to work with them and help their chosen charities and community groups through this donation programme,” said Michael Lorenz, managing director and owner of Michaels Fresh Food Supermarkets.

“Over the years it all adds up to be a force for good. It has the potential to really support grassroots organisations in the communities in which we live and operate too.”

Fairleys has served Shepparton for more than 130 years and has been making these contributions since being taken over by Michaels.

Now based at Numurkah Road and Hawkins Street in North Shepparton, Fairleys Community rewards programme donates a percentage of profits on items to charities and non-profits, all chosen by the customers.

Hospice and the GV Health Foundation have benefited the most to date, while Verney Road Special School is well supported amongst 19 schools receiving financial help from Fairleys and its customers.

The Community Rewards programme also operates in the company’s Gippsland stores and at Eaglehawk. Altogether, Michaels has donated more than $2,750,000 primarily to communities in regional Victoria (Gippsland $1,985,000 and Eaglehawk $226,900, as well as the $550,000 at Fairleys North Shepparton).
