For the past three weeks and for the next seven, WomenCAN Australia (WCA) is teaming up with The Adviser to, well, advise the women of Shepparton and the region of training and employment opportunities in childcare and aged care.

WCA was established in 2019 to provide women free training and then employment, all the while aided by a unique program of peer support, The Placement Circle.

Many of our Participants have had disrupted careers because they have been out of the paid workforce for years providing care to others. Others, often from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, find the notorious bureaucratic barriers of the system insurmountable.

WCA was recently invited to write a submission to the Federal parliamentary inquiry into employment services. It details the community-wide benefits of our program and demonstrates there can be no prosperous high streets without healthy backstreets.

The chair of that inquiry, Julien Hill MP, said on ABC radio last week the system isn’t working and at times is “torturing unemployed people”.

WCA is part of the solution, helping solve Australia’s skills shortage, woman by woman. Join the almost 1000 women who’ve benefited from our programs. We’ll bring you more information next week. There’s lots here, too: https://www.womencanaustralia.org/
