BRINGING together young and talented performers from across Victoria, the Initial Stages Summer Workshop is proud to present for one, sparking and spectacular matinee and evening only, the 1980s cult classic, Xanadu.
On Saturday, January 28 at Westside Performing Arts Centre, the stage will come alive with mirror ball, colour and American musical fantasy as songs made famous by Australia’s own Olivia Newton-John fill the theatre as cast members roller-skate across the stage.
The culmination of a tireless week of rehearsals and practice, the Initial Stages troupe will perform a range of polished songs including ‘Evil Woman’ in a refined, slightly shorter version of the ever-popular musical.
Wanting to fill the gap left behind in theatre arts since the resoundingly successful Initial Stages Theatre Company ceased operation last year, director Helen Janke said this year’s Summer Workshop has brought together not only previous Initial Stages members but also students who are studying theatre at a tertiary level to work backstage.
With the cast having received their scripts and songs well before the workshop week, Helen said that the vigorous and dynamic workshop, which will run from January 23-27, will also provide an opportunity for her to mentor students in stage management and directing.
Two performances of Initial Stages Summer Workshop production of Xanadu will be held at the Westside Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, January 28 at 2pm and at 7.30pm.
