Bike patrol launches

A JOINT venture between Victoria Police and the Shepparton Neighbourhood Watch Committee was launched last week which will see local police patrolling our pathways and community events on bikes to further ensure community safety. Funding for the Shepparton bikes was provided thanks to Neighbourhood Watch and the initiative will provide a high-visibility presence not only in the CBD but also surrounding towns such as Tatura and Mooroopna. First Constable Georgia Ryan was one of the officers who undertook bike patrol training. Already an avid bike rider in her own time, she's excited to hit the pavement while looking out for our community. "This bike patrol program will be great for members of our community to feel safer on walking tracks and around town. There are places we are able to get to on bikes that can be otherwise tricky, particularly at large community events," said Inspector Bruce Simpson. In total, six new patrol bikes have been implemented, with two allocated to Shepparton and the rest based in Seymour and Benalla.
