If you live in a rural or regional area you may not need a permit to clear trees, branches and scrub from around your home. Reducing the vegetation around your home is one of the most important things you can do to keep your home safe in a bushfire.
Although all plants will burn under the right conditions, some plants are less likely to catch fire than others. Choosing plants with low flammability and locating them correctly will help reduce bushfire risk within a garden.
Burning off grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth or other vegetation is generally permitted outside the Fire Danger Period and can reduce bushfire risk. Ensure you check with Greater Shepparton City Council before doing so.
