Quietly powering some of the most essential operations in the region, from farms and factories to water treatment and water facilities, GEM Electric Motors plays a vital role in keeping regional industries running smoothly.

With over 16 years of industry experience, Nick McLean brings deep technical expertise and global insight to the business. As President of the Australasian Chapter of EASA (Electro-Mechanical Authority), he ensures GEM stays ahead of the curve on international best practices, motor efficiency, and emerging technologies.

Proficient in a broad range of work, from full motor rewinds in the workshop to diagnosing faults, pulling out pumps, or conducting vibration analysis on machinery, Nick and co-owner Madi Sewell are also deeply committed to growing a future workforce in this niche, highly skilled sector.

With one apprentice nominated and finalist for the Apprentice/Trainee of the Year Award in this year’s SPC Greater Shepparton Business Excellence awards, and another recently joining the team, GEM is diligent in developing the skills essential to keeping the region’s wheels of industry turning.

From day one, Nick and Madi provide their apprentices with hands-on training, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a field where no two days are ever the same. Whether it’s stripping down motors, tackling on-site breakdowns, or solving real-world problems, GEM’s electromechanical apprentices gain valuable experience and a strong foundation for long-term career success.

“Our apprentices don’t stand back; they’re part of the team and part of the solution. This focus on practical learning not only fills a critical skills gap but helps secure the long-term health of the local industry,” said Nick.

By combining technical excellence, global knowledge and real investment in people, GEM Electric Motors continues to deliver service that truly is a cut above.
