Communities across the Goulburn Broken catchment celebrated National Landcare Week recently, recognising the volunteers, farmers, Traditional Owners, community groups and organisations working to protect and enhance our natural environment.
This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Landcare, celebrating four decades of community driven action to care for Australia’s land, water, biodiversity and natural resources.
The Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority thanks the thousands of volunteers whose time, knowledge and dedication have helped create healthier landscapes and stronger communities.
The Goulburn Broken catchment has a proud Landcare history and is home to 67 Landcare groups that collectively cover around 66 per cent of the region. These groups bring together people from all walks of life who share a commitment to caring for the land, waterways, native plants and wildlife that make our region unique.
During 2024-25, Landcare groups, networks and volunteers contributed an impressive 39,000 volunteer hours and engaged more than 8,395 members in activities that support healthy landscapes and thriving communities.
Their efforts included revegetation, weed control, fencing, wildlife habitat restoration and more than 100 community events that connected people with nature and each other.
