IN THE heart of Shepparton, the story of GV Hydraulink and its co-owner and managing director, Angelo Poppa, has been steadily unfolding. Angelo’s journey began with a simple motivation: success. “I bought a rundown business out of sheer determination to create something worthwhile,” he recalls.
His background in maintenance had shown him the shortcomings of the local hydraulic suppliers. This insight led him to partner with GV Hydraulink, a partnership that offered national exposure and backup. “The opportunity was there, and I took it,” Angelo says.
Over the years, GV Hydraulink has grown from a one staff member operation to an eight-member team, an achievement Angelo attributes to the importance of treating staff well. “Good key staff is paramount. Give back and treat people well, and they’ll do the same for you,” he advises.

Angelo’s commitment to providing everything clients want with ease and safety is a cornerstone of GV Hydraulink’s success. This dedication to service and safety has earned them a loyal client base that continues to grow. “Our clients know they can rely on us for their needs,” Angelo says.
Starting his first business, Angelo admits he was ‘very green’ as a business owner. However, his hunger for success and relentless determination have been instrumental in propelling GV Hydraulink to its current status as a top hydraulic company in the GV. “I learned on the job and was driven by my desire to succeed,” he shares.
One of the company’s strength lies in its relationships with major suppliers, enabling them to undertake offshore ventures. From delivering power packs to France to a mooring winch to Dubai, GV Hydraulink’s versatility, flexibility, and world-class knowledge have been recognised globally.
Despite the inevitable ups and downs, Angelo wouldn’t hesitate to encourage others to follow their passions. “It can be lonely, but find an outlet,” he advises. “I would absolutely do it all again if age was on my side,” he chuckles. Reflecting on his journey, he adds, “There’s nothing better than someone saying it can’t be done, but you’ve done it,”
