The Water Plus Irrigation story

It’s often said you don’t build a business—you build people, and people build the business. Few examples demonstrate this better than Water Plus Irrigation.

Founded in 2005 and led by Managing Director Andrew Ratten, the Shepparton-based, family owned, company has grown into a leading provider of innovative irrigation solutions across the Goulburn Valley and beyond.

With a focus on efficiency and reliability, Water Plus specialises in designing, installing and maintaining tailored irrigation systems for agriculture, horticulture, broadacre cropping, commercial landscapes and sporting facilities as well as a design service for DIY home gardeners. Their expertise spans drip irrigation, advanced filtration, electric, solar and diesel pump installations, as well as automation and remote monitoring technologies that allow growers to make smarter, data-driven decisions.

“We set up properties with the right pump stations and automation, integrating rainfall and soil moisture data so irrigation managers can make informed choices,” Andrew said.

That combination of technology and expertise is evident in their ongoing work on numerous local orchards. Drip irrigation is the predominant method and by monitoring field pressures and sub-soil moisture levels, Water Plus ensures every block receives the right amount of water – every time.

The company’s versatility is further highlighted by projects like a recent large-scale installation at a horse stud near Seymour, where three 90kW lineshaft turbine pumps were installed and commissioned to meet the property’s specific needs.

Yet for Andrew, the true strength of Water Plus lies in its people.

“We’ve built a long-term, stable team that keeps the business running smoothly and builds customer loyalty,” he said. “Our 17 staff bring a diverse range of skills, from project management to A-grade electrical work, automation and sales. Seven of us combined have close to a century of experience at Water Plus.”

That depth of knowledge is constantly refreshed through online learning and supplier training, ensuring the team remains at the forefront of industry advancements.

For Andrew, reputation is everything.

“We don’t cut corners. We want clients to trust us and recommend us because we always do the right thing. At the end of the day, it’s about delivering the best possible result.”

Nearly two decades on, Water Plus Irrigation stands as a reminder that while technology and innovation drive progress, it’s people who truly build a business.
