SHEPPARTON Foodshare still needs a permanent home and the Member for Northern Victoria, Wendy Lovell, has thrown her support behind the invaluable initiative.

Ms Lovell is seeking funding from the State Government to construct a permanent home for the organisation.

During the adjournment debate in State Parliament this week, Ms Lovell sang the praises of Shepparton Foodshare, highlighting its wonderful contribution during the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Greater Shepparton.

Ms Lovell said the organisation took a lead role during the crisis, co-ordinating food distribution to the thousands of families unable to access basic goods and services whilst completing their required 14-day quarantine period.

Working with other agencies, Shepparton Foodshare distributed more than 61,000 kilograms of food to vulnerable people over ten days.

As reported earlier this month, Shepparton Foodshare must vacate their current facility in Mooroopna by February 2022. The Foodshare Board plan to purchase land and are seeking government funding to construct a fit-for-purpose facility that will become the organisation’s permanent home.

“The provision of the $950,000 would be an appropriate thank you to this magnificent organisation who stepped up to feed thousands of residents forced into quarantine during the recent Covid-19 outbreak in our community,” said Ms Lovell.

The funding commitment of $950,000 from is being sought from the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers, Luke Donnellan, to allow Shepparton Foodshare to build their planned ‘forever home’ and secure the future of this vital community organisation.
