Looking for something fun and easy to do around the home that will occupy the young and old and keep the family healthy and happy at the same time? How about starting a veggie garden.

It doesn’t matter if you have a balcony or a backyard, anyone can start a veggie garden and reap the rewards of being immersed in nature.

Veggies generally need around six hours per day of sunlight, good soil or formulated potting mix, and adequate drainage systems both in the soil and in pots.

Vegetables that are ideal for spring planting include, tomatoes, carrots, capsicums, beetroots, cucumbers, and broad beans. Crops ready for the taking include, silverbeet, spinach, spring onion, cauliflower, and broccoli, just to name a few.

There are many great aspects of having your own veggie garden, watching the vegetables grow can be quite exciting. Then, when it’s time to get out and pick what is ready, it is quite satisfying. Cooking and eating what you have produced yourself though, is by far the best part.
