Getting the best out of wood heating

From the earliest of times, man has relied upon the warmth of fire to ward off the winter chills and with the weather getting down to –1C, a wood fire remains the most appealing way to get warm.

The Europeans, with their colder weather than we have in Australia, have been at the forefront of developing wood heaters that offer excellent efficiency and are environmentally friendly.

The general design of Australian wood heaters draws air in from within the room to maintain combustion and this requires replacement air, often cool air, to come into the room such that is causes drafts. In addition, many fires have a built-in fan to push the warm air around the room.

The Euro fireplace works on a different principle. Combustion air can be drawn in from outside the home this maintains the air quality inside the house, as well as allowing the heater to achieve a greater draw. Also using the process of natural convection, the heater can create an airflow that can reach far into a home without the assistance of a fan.

An option with the Euro design is the inclusion of heat banks that store heat and slowly dissipates it when the fire eventually goes out.

Specialized Heating and Cooling have several models of the Euro Fireplaces on display and as you walk into the showroom, you can immediately feel the heat emanating from the unit.

Specialized Heating and Cooling is at 70 Benalla Road, Shepparton.
