Shepparton’s Furphy Foundry has grown from an agricultural implement maker to a leader in sustainable manufacturing, specialising in Australian-made Street and Park Furniture and public Open Space Structures.

Furphy Infrastructure Group Managing Director, Sam Furphy, says innovation, resilience and passion are the key influences driving the business and its success today.

“Furphy Foundry is celebrating its 150th anniversary of manufacturing tradition in Shepparton next month – it has survived wars, economic downturns, succession, drought and floods during that time. I’d like to think we, more than most, can say we are a truly resilient organisation,” he said.

“We are continuing to evolve and our sustainability initiatives are a great example of this – we invested in solar power across the Shepparton facility in 2021 and all our products are manufactured from a clean energy source. Partnering with Climate Active, we’re also thrilled to launch Australia’s first carbon-neutral certified Street and Park Furniture Range – the Nuvo Range – which is a major innovation and offering to our specific marketplace.

“In the past 12 months we have invested in a new cast aluminum die-casting facility which is clean and green and powered by solar energy. We are very excited about this transformation for our casting plant and what this means for our future production and our ability to continue to create beautiful and functional product designs.”

Large solar shade structures providing renewable energy that can be banked, used for power consumption, or linked to electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are also now manufactured at the Shepparton facility.

“These examples demonstrate our passion for innovation and investment for future business success and sustainability,” Sam said.

All these advancements have created an opportunity to upskill the team, create further career pathways and hire more locals, which is great for the local community and our valued suppliers in the Goulburn Valley.
