Not enough bins

EVERY year over the Easter long weekend many tourists flock to the river’s edge in Murchison. Whether it be for some fishing or some camping relaxation among the beauty of the Goulburn River or for a bit of both, unfortunately though every year when they leave, their rubbish stays behind piling up on the streets around Murchison’s parks and shops and left scattered along the river.

Murchison Fire Bridge CFA (Country Fire Authority), captain, Thaniel Meyer stated that this year when fire fighters went down to the river to do their bit for the ‘Good Friday Appeal’ and help with getting some donations on the banks, that there were quite a few campers around.

“It was again a busy Easter weekend, every year they are getting bigger. Most campers complied with the current rules, however there were some camps who had to be educated about the importance of a safe fire. The biggest issue was all the rubbish. It is noticeably clear that Murchison needs more public bins to help accommodate for the influx of campers around these areas, not only over Easter but throughout the year,” said the captain.
