On the business news front, Greater Shepparton Business Network (GSBN), formerly Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry, announced the new sponsorship deal of naming rights of the region’s premier business awards. Australia’s and Shepparton’s very own food processing giant, SPC Operations is the new naming rights sponsor.

The popular business awards have expanded to include Greater Shepparton, which includes Mooroopna, Tatura, Murchison and Dookie.

GSBN vice president and awards committee chair, Wayne Sutton said, “We are delighted to have such a well-recognised local brand known to Australians and many parts of the world playing an important role in the awards. SPC recognises the importance of a strong community partnership,” he said.

The SPC 2023 Business Excellence Awards were officially launched at the newly relocated WDEA Works (now are-able) in June.

Head of operations at SPC, Peter York, said, “We are very connected to the grassroots right into the heart of Greater Shepparton. We employ 100s of locals, buy produce from local farmers, use local electricians and so forth. Having excellent businesses around Shepparton is a part of what we are, and having the awards process that recognises excellence through all those businesses is fantastic.”

Mr York credited the brilliant collective of local businesses to the success of his own business, which has been in operation for 106 years.

The awards culminate in a special presentation gala dinner on Friday 27th October, 2023.
