I read with interest Shelley Sutton’s letter to the editor dated 25/2/22 regarding Cr Rob Priestly temporarily pausing his council career while he contests the 2022 federal election. Municipal Association of Victoria Guidelines clearly states that every effort should be made not to cloud the two separate roles.
Cr Priestly has followed these guidelines to a tee. He could clearly be gaining publicity as a councillor by retaining his council position if he desired. Council is a lot bigger than one councillor. At a time when most voters are disillusioned with the behaviour of both sides of the house, it is heartening to see someone with the integrity of Rob Priestly put his hand up to serve the good people of Nicholls. Those being critical of Rob standing aside are more interested in the agenda of promoting their favorite party than in good standards of governance.
